Algonquins of Barriere Lake try to keep lights on as federal funding dries up

With funding for its diesel generators set to expire, the Algonquins of Barriere Lake First Nation is searching for a way to keep power flowing in the community. Their chief has been at odds with Indigenous Services Canada and Hydro-Québec on what the long-term solution should be.
A study published this month by researchers at the University of Ottawa has found that applying woodchips to some trails significantly reduced local tick populations.
