Ottawa Now - Is the goal line in Canada-USA trade tensions shifting?

June 4, 2026

The review of Canada’s agreement with USA and Mexico is just weeks away. It will be up for review – oddly enough – on Canada Day. U.S. President Trump is accusing those countries of not doing enough to halt forced-labour products from entering the North American supply chain. The proposed levy on Canada would not apply to goods compliant with CUSMA, meaning that a large majority of Canada’s exports to the United States will be exempt. David Paterson, Ontario's Trade Representative in Washington, knows about these trade tensions all too well. He joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
