RCMP identify remains of child found in Manitoba barn

RCMP have identified a young girl whose remains were found in a barn in Manitoba.Mounties say Xavia Skye Lynn Butler would have been between one and two years old at the time of her death.Her remains were located on a property near Grahamdale, about 200 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, on June 3.
The committee monitoring how governments and the RCMP are responding to the inquiry into the 2020 mass shooting in Nova Scotia has released its first annual progress report, but it does not include any assessment of the police force’s actions.Myra Freeman, chairwoman of the independent progress monitoring committee, told a news conference Friday she is encouraged by the “serious commitment” of the federal and Nova Scotia governments to address the inquiry’s 130 recommendations.

One woman was killed and another was badly injured following an alleged armed robbery attempt at a clothing store southeast of Quebec City.Quebec provincial police say the suspect entered the business in St-Anselme, Que., at around 8 p.m. Thursday and wounded the two female employees before fleeing on foot.One of the victims, who was in her 30s, died of her injuries.

The manuscript for the novel Anne of Green Gables has been added to a United Nations register that highlights Canadian heritage.The work by Lucy Maud Montgomery has been included in the Canada Memory of the World Register, administered by the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, in honour of the author’s 150th birthday.
