Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Fri. May 17th, 2024

May 17, 2024
At first, if you tried to cheat the system and steal from the neighbourhood store, an electronic tag would call you out on the spot. Today, those exit alarms have turned into tall plexiglass barriers. Perhaps it’s receipt checkers. Or maybe it’s wheel-locking shopping carts. Either way, these anti-theft measures are really starting to annoy modern-day shoppers. Retailers are pointing the fingers at organized crime, but how much blame do they shoulder? In Hour 2, Kristy Cameron chats with Michelle Wasylyshen, a National Spokesperson for the Retail Council of Canada. Meantime, Public Health Ontario is confirming that a young child has died of measles, the first such death in the province since tracking began in 1989.
