Ontario has announced a series of brand-new high school graduation requirements, all part of the province’s ‘back-to-basics’ approach to education. A financial literacy graduation requirement, for example, is one of the biggest changes on the table. Starting next year, high-schoolers will need to pass this assessment during their Grade 10 Math course, needing a 70-or-higher in order to graduate. Kristy Cameron chats with OSSTF President Karen Littlewood in Hour 1. Meantime, a pivotal transportation beacon in Kingston is facing a necessary demolition. The federal government had previously assured residents that repairs to the LaSalle Causeway Bascule Bridge were headed in the right direction. That positive update was sent all the way back in March. But after brand-new damages were spotted, those plans have since changed, and a temporary solution should be in place within the next few weeks.

B.C. will look at changing its building code to allow small apartments to be built with a single stair, adding to its reputation as the province most willing to try new ideas to create more housing supply, though the move is also drawing safety-related concerns.Canada’s building code, which provinces have generally gone along with, has required two staircases per apartment building since 1941. But B.C.’s Ministry of Housing last week published a research report outlining the optimal conditions for single staircases.
