Ontario to ban supervised consumption sites near schools, childcare centres

August 20, 2024
Ontario is banning supervised consumption sites near schools and childcare centres and adding recovery hubs as part of the government’s new approach to treating addiction, after a shooting outside a Toronto facility last summer prompted the province to launch a review and impose a moratorium on new locations.A spokeswoman for Premier Doug Ford’s office on Tuesday said the province will announce details on banning supervised consumption sites within 200 metres of schools and childcare centres as well as adding addiction recovery supports with new treatment hubs. The information was first reported in the Toronto Sun. Spokeswoman Grace Lee said Health Minister Sylvia Jones will provide details later Tuesday afternoon.
