Ontario’s redevelopment of its Ontario Place site on Toronto’s waterfront is set to cost taxpayers $2.237-billion, or $1.8-billion more than originally estimated, the province’s Auditor-General says, noting the ballooning bill has not been formally approved by the government.In her annual report released on Tuesday, Auditor-General Shelley Spence also says that Infrastructure Ontario, the provincial agency in charge of the Ontario Place procurement, failed to follow its own rules in various ways when it solicited private bidders to redevelop the site, including by allowing meetings between multiple bidders and government officials or high-ranking political staff.
