Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. November 28th, 2024

November 28, 2024
Ahead of the Christmas holiday season, we are getting a short-term holiday on Canadian taxes. And then, in late-January, we might be getting some American tax pain. But let’s not think about that last part for at least the next 30 days. The bigger news this afternoon is that the NDP isn’t satisfied with the federal government’s plans to distribute a series of $250 cheques, and that portion of the idea is being put on the backburner. They want to know who exactly qualifies for these deposits, and also determine if an expansion for those qualifications can be made. In light of these tax breaks, will your shopping habits change? Are you more keen to spend money this Christmas, or are you taking full advantage of this opportunity to save your hard-earned dollars? We open the debate floor in Hour 1. But first, we bring you up to speed on today’s top headlines.
