Hour 3 of Ottawa Now for Fri. December 13th, 2024

December 13, 2024
After 29 days off the job, the feds are getting ready to send 55,000 Canada Post workers back to their workstations. In a statement to CTV News, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers is none too pleased with Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon, calling today’s decision an ‘assault’ on its rights to bargain and strike. They say it continues a ‘deeply troubling pattern’ in which the government ‘uses its arbitrary powers to let employers off the hook’. Did the Trudeau Liberals make the right call? Kristy Cameron does a vibe check in Hour 3, as she tackles today’s Question of the Day. We also share some personal stories that are tied to this courier crisis, starting with Smiths Falls resident Barb Allman. Her step-son had ordered a new passport in October and it was scheduled to arrive on November 14th. Hours before their family vacation begins, she says he still hasn’t received it. Plus, as Canada prepares for next year’s Trump tariffs, Ontario’s Premier says the province might go further than cutting off electricity to its American friends, as American wines could soon be caught in the crossfire. CFRA’s Andrew Pinsent has more on that.
