Trump launches trade war against Canada with a 25% tariff on most goods

February 1, 2025
President Donald Trump launched a trade war against Canada on Saturday by imposing a 25 per cent tariff on virtually all goods from the U.S.'s neighbour — an unprecedented strike against a longstanding ally that could throw the economy into a tailspin. A White House fact sheet sent to CBC News says tariffs of 25 per cent on Mexican goods and 10 per cent on goods from China will also be levied by the U.S.
