Savvy manager Jane McGarrigle oversaw careers of her folk-playing sisters, Kate and Anna McGarrigle

February 7, 2025
Although known as the adult-in-the-room manager to her younger folk-duo sisters Kate and Anna McGarrigle, and as a significant businesswoman in the music publishing industry, Montrealer Jane McGarrigle had a rowdy, adventurous spirit. In 1969, while living in California, she and her husband hopped on a motorcycle and were ushered into the infamous counterculture rock concert at Altamont Speedway by members of an outlaw biker gang. In the seventies, she drove a green convertible muscle car. And as 17-year-old recruited by nuns to be an organist in a Quebec-countryside Catholic parish, she once raised hell in the wrong place at the wrong time.
