Ontario imposes 25% surcharge on electricity exports to U.S.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he has applied a 25-per-cent surcharge to all of his province’s electricity exports to the U.S. in retaliation for President Donald Trump’s tariffs – and once again warned he could cut off all Ontario power headed south of the border.“President Trump’s tariffs are a disaster for the U.S. economy. They’re making life more expensive for American families and businesses,” Mr. Ford said in a press release distributed on Monday. “Until the threat of tariffs is gone for good, Ontario won’t back down. We’ll stand strong, use every tool in our toolkit and do whatever it takes to protect Ontario.”
William Nylander and Nick Robertson had two goals apiece as the Toronto Maple Leafs blanked the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-0 on Saturday for their fourth straight victory.

The annual event, held in Los Angeles, celebrates the world’s largest science awards with a dose of Hollywood glam.Daniel Drucker, a physician and senior investigator at Toronto’s Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, was one of five researchers jointly awarded a US$3-million Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences for discoveries leading to the development of a class of drugs that are now widely used in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes and obesity.
