Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. February 13th, 2025

February 13, 2025
Earlier today, U.S. President Donald Trump rolled out his plan to increase U.S. tariffs to match the tax rates that other countries charge on imports. The increases would be customized for each country, with the partial goal of starting new trade negotiations. As it stands today, Canada could be facing a series of significant tariffs on March 4th. Meantime, 12 of Canada’s 13 Premiers travelled to Washington to meet with advisors of the U.S. President, an attempt to gain some clarity on those upcoming tariffs. Kristy Cameron digs deeper with Chris Cochrane, a Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto. He studies political disagreements in Canadian politics, and also examines the threats that currently face our country’s economic well-being. Plus, until President Trump stops questioning Canada’s sovereignty, one expert is suggesting that the feds should block Trump’s chosen Ambassador to Canada. Here to explain further is Will Greaves, a Professor of International Relations at the University of Victoria.
