Former B.C. cabinet minister Mike de Jong set to run in federal election as an independent

March 27, 2025
For the first time in a political career that spans 30 years, Mike de Jong is campaigning without a party machine behind him.It wasn’t his first choice. The former B.C. cabinet heavyweight was abruptly rejected as a federal Conservative candidate earlier this month, after a year of organizing and signing up new party members. He was set to announce on Thursday that he will run instead as an independent in the Fraser Valley riding of Abbotsford-South Langley.
