Defence lawyer in Hockey Canada sexual-assault trial presses complainant on inconsistencies in her statements to investigators

In a third day of cross-examination of the complainant in the sexual-assault trial of five former world junior hockey players, defence lawyer Megan Savard pressed her on inconsistencies between the statements she gave to police in 2018 and the written statement she provided to Hockey Canada during the sports organization’s 2022 investigation.The complainant, who is known publicly as E.M., previously told the court that there are some discrepancies between the two versions because the Hockey Canada statement was drafted by her lawyers. E.M. said she reviewed the document and signed it, but that she “didn’t catch” some errors.
