As measles cases surge across Southern Alberta, officials abandon site-specific alerts in favour of standing advisory

Surging measles cases in Southern Alberta have prompted health officials to abandon the use of public alerts to warn people of site-specific measles exposures.Instead, Alberta Health Services, the provincial health authority, has issued a standing measles exposure advisory that warns anyone living in or visiting the South Zone that they are at “significant” risk of being exposed to the virus.This standing advisory, which was released last Friday, replaced the use of alerts that warned the public about specific locations, such as businesses or clinics, where someone with a confirmed case of measles visited while infectious.
The Bloc Quebecois has argued the internal trade portion of Bill C-5 could be passed quickly, but called for a separate study of the changes to major project reviews.
