Indigenous people living on reserves and in remote communities in Canada are disproportionately affected by wildfires, researchers have found. Those who study wildfire evacuations and others who provide counselling to Indigenous people suggest there are ways to improve how it's all handled.

The Built Heritage Committee today directed staff to undertake a Heritage Conservation District (HCD) study and prepare an HCD plan for Island Park Drive.
To be designated as an HCD, at least 25 per cent of properties in an area must meet two or more of the nine criteria for designation outlined in the Ontario Heritage Act. Staff’s HCD feasibility assessment found that Island Park Drive has the potential to meet or exceed that threshold for designation.
