Wildfire smoke prompts air-quality warnings for much of Central Canada and Manitoba

Heavy smoke and thick fumes triggered air-quality alerts in vast swaths of the country Monday, as some areas in Western and Central Canada are experiencing one of the most destructive wildfire seasons in recent decades.Environment and Climate Change Canada is warning people to be aware of smoke exposure, with western winds pushing plumes from Prairie wildfires toward Quebec and Ontario, causing reduced visibility in multiple regions. Residents have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed, limit their time outside, and to reschedule or cancel sports, events and outdoor activities.
Several businesses along Stephen Avenue are relieved the City of Calgary paused construction over concerns the project would impact bottom lines during tourist season.

Members of the Canadian military’s only ceremonial mounted troop got to meet and chat with the King Monday at Windsor Castle.
The 26 soldiers from Lord Strathcona’s Horse, a Canadian Forces tank regiment based in Edmonton, are in England to fill the role of the King’s Life Guard at Buckingham Palace until July 21. King Charles III hosted them Monday at Windsor Castle.
“His Royal Highness invited the mounted troop over for a brief meeting,” Capt. Tom Lauterbacher, the Strathcona Mounted Troop leader, said Monday.
