Hour 3 of Ottawa Now for Mon. July 14th, 2025

July 14, 2025
In March of 2020, everything changed. A global pandemic shut the whole world down. Everyone was shuttered in their own homes, rarely making contact with their next-door neighbours unless it was at a safe distance. And for some, the weight they were carrying around was both mental and physical. A new report says obesity rates have increased faster during COVID-19 compared to 10 years before it. For today’s young adults, the numbers are especially jarring. Researchers oversaw a roughly 8 percent increase from 2009 to 2020. Between 2020 and 2023, in each year, there was an uptick of 1 percent. Have you gained weight during COVID? Is it enough to sound the alarm bells? Kristy Cameron sifts through the textboard and tackles today’s Question of the Day. Plus, it’s a Monday afternoon, which means it’s time to talk politics with our Political Heat Panel. And for Canada’s Prime Minister, his biggest nightmare could be his potential conflicts of interests, which his critics are targeting today.
