Evacuation order and some alerts lifted for fire burning near Lytton, B.C.

An evacuation order issued by the Lytton First Nation has been rescinded after firefighters declared that a nearby wildfire had been held.
Evacuation alerts issued by the nation and the Thompson-Nicola Regional District have also been lifted for the Cantilever Bar wildfire, which lost its out-of-control status on Tuesday.
Ottawa police are seeking public assistance to identify suspects in an Aug. 5 assault in the 8300 block of Forest Green Crescent in the Metcalfe neighbourhood. Read More

OTTAWA — Canadian Armed Forces personnel will get their largest pay increase in more than 25 years, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Friday, part of the federal government’s plan to improve the military’s capabilities and hit NATO’s spending target.
Carney said Ottawa will spend about $2 billion on the pay increases because soldiers and other military personnel are at the heart of protecting Canada’s sovereignty and their pay should reflect the importance of their roles.
