Hudson’s Bay lease sale to Ruby Liu is driven by lender’s push to recover cash: landlords

Hudson’s Bay landlords say a lender’s desire to recoup cash is the only reason the shuttered department store is pursuing a plan to sell its leases to a B.C. billionaire.
The Bay’s landlords say in new court documents that the retailer is keen to make a sale of 25 leases to Ruby Liu happen because of Pathlight Capital LP.
In the fall of 2024, the government of Ontario’s own advisers warned that closing supervised consumption sites in the province would result in “increased emergency department visits, health impacts, overdoses and death.” Despite these warnings, the government forced the closure of nine Consumption and Treatment Services (CTS) sites on March 31, 2025.
