Council approves development near St. Laurent Station

August 27, 2025

City Council has approved changes that will allow six new towers and a new public park to be built near St. Laurent Station.

The plan includes two groups of high-rise buildings with a total of about 1,770 residential units. These will be built southwest of Coventry and Belfast roads. The north block will have a new public park and two towers that are 25 and 28 storeys tall. Shops will be on the ground floor, facing Coventry Road. The south block will have four towers that are 21, 31, 33 and 35 storeys tall.

Eight-storey building brings more housing and public realm improvements to Beechwood

Council also moved to allow a new eight-storey building near Beechwood Avenue and Springfield Road. The building will have 123 units, including studio and two-bedroom apartments. It will also have space for shops on the ground floor, facing Beechwood Avenue. The plan keeps the current bus stop and adds a bike lane, new sidewalks, patios for businesses, and green spaces to help trees grow.

Integrity Commissioner reports on an inquiry on the conduct of Councillor Plante

Council also received a report from the Integrity Commissioner regarding Rideau-Vanier Councillor, Stéphanie Plante. Council chose to acknowledge the Integrity Commissioner’s recommendation that Councillor Plante had contravened Section 7 of the Code of Conduct and issued a reprimand.
