Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Fri. September 5th, 2025

September 5, 2025

On Thursday, the streets were buzzing about a significant announcement on Friday from Canada’s Prime Minister. This morning, we got exactly that, as Mark Carney unveiled a brand-new ‘Buy Canadian’ procurement policy. Starting next Spring, all federal government departments, agencies, and Crown corporations will buy from Canada. This is not a suggestion. This is a mandatory policy. Shifting gears to Canada’s EV mandates, that policy was supposed to begin in the new year. However, things have since changed, and the electric vehicle sales targets are being walked back. It’s all part of a 9-part strategy to support economic sectors that have been battered and bruised by the ongoing trade war. CFRA’s Andrew Pinsent breaks it all down for us in Hour 1. We also hear from Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, as he labels Carney’s plan as ‘show business’. And in local news, is stunt driving becoming a bigger problem in Canada’s Capital? According to Barrhaven West councillor David Hill, it is. He hops on the air to vent his frustrations.
