Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. September 11th, 2025

September 11, 2025

Ahead of Monday’s return to Parliament, Prime Minister Mark Carney has finally unveiled the first phase of his Nations Building Project Plan. It includes a liquified-natural-gas expansion project out of Kitimat, better known as LNG. With momentum on its side, that endeavour would double Canada’s production of liquified natural gas. Four other projects, spanning from all 3 coasts, are also being recommended for approval. It comes after years of hesitation from former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who had insisted there was no ‘business case’ to export Canadian LNG to Europe. In recent months, Carney has been singing a different tune, showcasing the country’s LNG arsenal to newer markets, such as Germany. Kristy Cameron digs deeper with Jay Khosla, the Executive Director of Economic and Energy Policy at the Public Policy Forum. He is also a former Assistant Deputy Minister in charge of Canadian Energy. Shifting gears to local news, could municipal employees in Canada’s Capital revert back to the remote-working models? Kitchissippi councillor Jeff Leiper is hoping to change City Council’s tune at the next meeting, where he is expected to put forward a motion that counters the upcoming comeback of in-person workspaces. He explains further in Hour 2.
