Ottawa Now - Prime Minister Carney unveils first step of his Nations Building Project Plan

September 11, 2025

Ahead of Monday’s return to Parliament, Prime Minister Mark Carney has finally unveiled the first phase of his Nations Building Project Plan. It includes a liquified-natural-gas expansion project out of Kitimat, better known as LNG. With momentum on its side, that B.C.-based endeavour would double Canada’s production of liquified natural gas. Four other projects, spanning from all 3 coasts, are also being recommended for approval. It comes after years of hesitation from former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who had insisted there was no ‘business case’ to export Canadian LNG to European nations. However, Carney has been singing a different tune since he took office last Spring, showcasing the country’s LNG arsenal to newer markets like Germany. Kristy Cameron digs deeper with Jay Khosla, the Executive Director of Economic and Energy Policy at the Public Policy Forum. He is also a former Assistant Deputy Minister in charge of Canadian Energy.

There is a void at Toronto’s core. Its City Hall still looks like the future, and the adjacent Nathan Phillips Square should be humming. Instead the five-hectare open space, which turned 60 in September, has slumped into slow decay. It’s not that no one’s noticed. The square has been designed and redesigned. What’s missing is execution and vision. City Hall hires designers, commissions plans, then abandons them.
