Members of parliament return to the House of Commons Monday following a summer break, with Prime Minister Mark Carney set to deliver his administration's first budget.

Statistics Canada says manufacturing sales rose 2.5 per cent to $70.3-billion in July, helped by strength in the transportation equipment subsector.The agency says sales of transportation equipment rose 8.6 per cent to $11.4-billion, boosted by an 11.4-per-cent increase in sales of motor vehicles and a 7.2-per-cent gain in motor vehicle parts. Aerospace products and parts sales also rose 6.5 per cent.
