Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Tues. September 16th, 2025

September 16, 2025

Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe is pledging to end youth homelessness in Canada’s Capital. He made the announcement earlier today at Ottawa City Hall, targeting 2030 as the original endgame. The municipality has already invested $82 million in affordable housing since 2022 and is on track to surpass $100 million in this term of council. Sutcliffe says the 2026 City Budget, which is currently set for release in November, will feature several measures and investments to push this vision in the right direction. Emily MacLean, a Housing Coordinator with Operation Come Home, joins the program in Hour 2. Meantime, Day 2 of Parliament’s Fall Session featured the resignation of Chrystia Freeland as Canada’s Transport Minister, triggering a few tweaks to Carney’s Cabinet. The biggest news of the day: An official date for Canada’s Fall Budget. It will be tabled on November 4th. Giving his two cents on both topics is Ivan Katchanovski, a Political Scientist and part-time UOttawa Professor.
