Ottawa Now - Mayor Sutcliffe aims to end youth homelessness by 2030, but is it achievable?
September 16, 2025
Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe is pledging to end youth homelessness in Canada’s Capital. He made the announcement earlier today at Ottawa City Hall, targeting 2030 as the original endgame. During his message, he explained that adult homelessness typically starts in the youth stages of life, and that November’s City Budget will feature several measures and investments to push this fight in the right direction. The municipality has already invested $82 million in affordable housing since 2022 and is on track to surpass $100 million in this term of council. Emily MacLean, a Housing Coordinator with Operation Come Home, believes this goal is 'attainable'. She joins Kristy Cameron with her reaction on today’s Ottawa Now.
Talks to update the agreement, known in Canada as CUSMA, are set to start next year but Carney said those talks are unlikely to resolve all outstanding issues.
