Lethbridge looks to rent-to-own solution to help close its housing gap

September 25, 2025

Like other Alberta cities, Lethbridge is experiencing a housing crunch, as the supply of homes continues to lag behind population growth. But some housing advocates say one new strategy might help – bringing more rent-to-own options to the market.

Since the summer of 2019, the number of residents in Alberta’s fourth-largest city has expanded by about 16 per cent, Statistics Canada estimates, causing both house prices and rental rates to swell at an accelerated pace.
