Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Wed. October 29th, 2025

October 29, 2025

In Hour 2, we return to the Somerset West supervised consumption site that was recently closed, and shed light on the concerning aftermath that has followed. On top of new data from Ottawa Paramedics that shows an increase in overdoses near the former site, advocates say the community is now leaning on outreach workers to help address growing issues. CTV’s Austin Lee joins us with the details. Then, we hear from Javier Salazar, a concerned father who lives in the area and whose daughter attends a daycare nearby. Plus, we are bidding farewell to one of Ottawa’s oldest shopping centres, as the Westgate Mall is slated to lock its doors by Halloween Night. And once November rolls around, its demolition will proceed. We delve into the plaza’s history with local historian Dave Allston. And as we shift gears to Friday’s Halloween festivities, Mother Nature could be raining on the trick-or-treater’s parade. CFRA’s Chris Holski explains.
