Federal unions are expressing outrage at the Carney government’s move to cut another 28,000 public sector jobs over the next 4 years. It’s part of a budgetary direction, according to Canada’s Prime Minister, that will make the government ‘much more productive’. The Canada Strong Budget will reduce the size of the federal public service by 40,000 jobs through job cuts, attrition, and early retirements. It will climb down from a peak of 367,772 employees in March of 2024 to a peak of 330,000 by 2028. Add it all up, and the feds have $60 billion in government spending savings over the next 5 years. PSAC National President Sharon DeSousa vents her frustrations and outlines her long-term concerns with Carney’s plan. Meantime, Planned Parenthood Ottawa is dealing with some budgetary problems of their own. According to its 2024 annual report, the Ottawa Chapter has surpassed its budget by nearly $100,000 in the last fiscal year alone. Executive Director Lyra Evans pays us a visit in Hour 2. Plus, have you ever heard of Eurovision? Apparently it's a big deal, and Canada wants in on it. CFRA's Chris Holski explains.
