Ottawa Now - Did the Canada Strong Budget gain enough trust for the Carney government to govern?

November 5, 2025

In their first official Federal Budget, the Carney Liberals are choosing generational investments over slashing the deficit. Canada’s Prime Minister is promising $90 billion in new spending over the next 5 years. At the same time, federal unions are expressing outrage at the government’s move to cut another 28,000 public sector jobs over the next 4 years. The Canada Strong Budget will reduce the size of the federal public service, going from a peak of 367,772 employees in March of 2024 to a peak of 330,000 by 2028. Are you satisfied with this fiscal update? And as the minority-led Liberals try to keep everyone happy, can a potential election be avoided? Kristy Cameron hosts a special edition of the Political Heat Panel on today’s Ottawa Now. It features former NDP leader Tom Mulcair, Rob Gilmour from Crestview Strategy, and Sabrina Grover from NorthStar Public Affairs.
