I was in a burger joint on Bank Street the other day, where I was surprised to see a sign indicating that not only was the washroom there not open to the non-paying public — an all-too-common restriction at retail businesses throughout Ottawa — but that even customers sitting down and eating at the restaurant were forbidden from using the facilities. A retired Regina police sergeant is expected to plead guilty Friday to criminal charges related to using police resources to pursue intimate relationships with dozens of vulnerable women. Robert Semenchuck, 53, had been expected to enter the plea in Regina Provincial Court on Thursday morning, but neither he nor his lawyer appeared in court. Court heard Mr. Semenchuck was prepared to offer a plea by phone, but Crown prosecutor Christopher Browne requested that the judge direct the accused appear in person.
