Ottawa Now - Eastern extension of LRT won't be ready until 2026

November 24, 2025

We have an official idea as to when transit riders will be able to take the O-Train into Orleans. The Eastern Extension of LRT, which extends the line from Blair Station to Trim Station, was originally expected to be operational this year. And now, we can confirm that it won’t be open before Christmas, or even New Year’s Eve. However, it’s likely to receive the green light in the early stages of 2026. In today’s update from O.C. Transpo Interim GM Troy Charter, a crowd of experts and an independent certifier must sign off first, saying the project has achieved substantial completion. After that, there will be further conversations and a technical briefing. Then, we’ll get to the trial runs. Joining Kristy Cameron for today’s Municipal Heat Panel are Beacon Hill-Cyrville councillor Tim Tierney and Barrhaven East councillor Wilson Lo.
