James Plover sentenced for assault, threats, ahead of separate murder trial in B.C.

The man accused in a high-profile killing of his estranged wife has been sentenced in a separate case of choking and uttering threats in Kelowna, B.C.
Provincial court Judge David Ruse sentenced James Plover to one year in jail on the choking charge and six months on each of the threat charges, which will all be served at the same time.
The identity of the victims in the case are covered by a publication ban.

A self-admitted “nasty drunk” sentenced to six years in prison nearly five years ago for killing a Halifax man with one punch has just been identified as a homicide victim.
Troy Edward William Clayton pleaded guilty to manslaughter in February of 2021 for the 2017 killing of Benjamin Lokeny.
“The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service conducted an autopsy and identified the victim as 59-year-old Troy Clayton from Halifax,” said a Thursday news release from Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Martin Cromwell.
The force doesn’t “believe the incident was random.”
