Ottawa Now - Osgoode councillor feels the East End landfill proposal is being rushed too quickly

November 27, 2025

The City of Ottawa is eyeing a private landfill in the East End, as the clock ticks away on the Trail Road landfill’s lifespan. Conversations about the potential purchase of this 475-acre property will continue over the coming months, but a sludge of community concerns and landfill capacity question marks await City Council. The Capital Region Resource Recovery Centre is the first and only landfill site that’s been approved by the province over the past 20-plus years, and it’s currently for sale through a competitive bidding process. Residents near the proposed site are growing more and more worried that property values will diminish if the landfill is built. And with only two weeks’ notice leading up to Wednesday’s vote, Osgoode councillor Isabelle Skalski feels that this entire process is being rushed too quickly. She joins Kristy Cameron on today's Ottawa Now.
