Quebec tables bill to speed up permits for major projects

Quebec tabled its own bill Tuesday to expedite large-scale projects in the province, one that would allow the province to amend some 30 laws to allow the realization of projects deemed of national interest.
In one of the most important meteorological events in the province’s history, successive bouts of freezing rain left thick layers of ice over everything in southern Quebec during a week-long span in January 1998, knocking out power for millions of people.
