All major highways connecting British Columbia’s Lower Mainland and Interior remained closed Thursday morning after heavy rainfall triggered flood warnings and evacuations in the south of the province. In Abbotsford, which declared a local state of emergency Wednesday night, 371 properties in Sumas Prairie West were ordered to evacuate. Evacuation alerts have been issued for Sumas Prairie East and Clayburn Village. All schools in the Fraser-Cascade School District, as well as Semá:th Elementary, are closed on Thursday.
