Akwesasne parents outraged after photos circulate of 'time out box' in school

Photos of a wooden box, allegedly used for student "time outs" at an elementary school in Akwesasne, drew shock and anger from parents this week and have prompted an investigation by the school district.
One day in 1954 at Saint Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, in a ritzy area of Newton, Mass., just outside of Boston, an unusual group sang at Mass. They were four former Toronto choirboys: Jimmy Arnold, Frankie Busseri, Connie Codarini and Bernie Toorish. The soda-shop set knew them as the Four Lads, harmonizing pop vocalists based in the United States whose signature hit at the time was a novelty number from a year earlier, Istanbul (Not Constantinople), their first gold record.

A Quebec judge has granted bail to a man who has spent 33 years behind bars for four murders, after concerns were raised about the fairness of his trial.Daniel Jolivet’s case is being examined by a federal panel for a possible miscarriage of justice. In the meantime, Quebec Superior Court Justice Lyne Décarie announced on Friday at the Montreal courthouse that Jolivet will be released from prison pending the outcome of the review.

At a neighbourhood Christmas party in Ottawa earlier this month, there were all the usual holiday delights: festive decor, treats and even a visit from the big man up North. It was an evening to remember for Christine Guptill, but not in the way she had imagined.Tucked into a party room at Royale Ranch, a horse farm in the city’s south, there were nearly 40 people at the party – half children, half adults. Ms. Guptill said some children were coughing and she overheard one family say they had left their sick kid at home.
