Ottawa Now - The pros and cons of using A.I. to monitor transit areas

November 26, 2025

Artificial Intelligence could someday help OC Transpo’s special constables monitor buses, O-Trains, and transit stations across Canada’s Capital. Earlier this week, OC Transpo Special Chief Constable Peter Scislowski told Transit Committee members that staff were mulling over the possibility. Kristy Cameron digs deeper with Ann Cavoukian, a former Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. She doesn’t dispute the benefits of Artificial Intelligence, but adds that we should find ways to promote public safety in a way that preserves privacy. Then, we chat with Steve Desroches, the city councillor for Riverside South-Findlay Creek who serves as the Transit Committee Vice-Chair. He explains why he’s open to the idea on today’s Ottawa Now.
