Ontario government employees are expected to return to the office five days per week starting Monday, despite objections from public sector unions.
In August, Premier Doug Ford announced thousands of Ontario civil servants would return to the office full time by January, ending work-from-home and hybrid models that have persisted more than five years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ford said it was time to bring people back to work so they can be mentored and collaborate.
A Coalition Avenir Québec member of the legislature was arrested this week for alleged impaired driving and is withdrawing from caucus for the duration of the legal proceedings.

Ottawa is sending military troops to a northern First Nation in Manitoba after a prolonged power outage forced the evacuation of thousands of people and damaged hundreds of homes.In a letter posted on social media late Friday, federal Emergency Management Minister Eleanor Olszewski said cabinet has agreed to deploy a specialized team from the Canadian Armed Forces to help Pimicikamak Cree Nation. She did not indicate an exact date for the team’s arrival.

Canadian figure skaters supported the national governing body’s decision to ice events in Alberta, while holding out hope that major competitions could one day return to the province.The national sport governing body announced last month it will no longer host international and national events in Alberta because of the provincial Fairness and Safety in Sport Act, a law that bars transgender Albertans aged 12 and older from competing in female-only sports.
