Ottawa to send military to Manitoba after power outages force evacuations in First Nation

Ottawa is sending military troops to a northern First Nation in Manitoba after a prolonged power outage forced the evacuation of thousands of people and damaged hundreds of homes.
In a letter posted on social media late Friday, federal Emergency Management Minister Eleanor Olszewski said cabinet has agreed to deploy a specialized team from the Canadian Armed Forces to help Pimicikamak Cree Nation. She did not indicate an exact date for the team’s arrival.
An officer with the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was on watch for speeders on Highway 401 near Morrisburg recently when a vehicle flashed by, heading east, at 239 km/h in the 110 km/h zone. Read More
