Mariposa Festival co-founder Ruth Jones-McVeigh gave an enduring gift to Canadian music

On July 11, 2010, in Orillia, Ont., the folk duo of Ian Tyson and Sylvia Tyson reunited at the Mariposa Folk Festival for a surprise performance of their melancholic Canadiana classic Four Strong Winds. Watching the former husband and wife harmonize on the ballad about a failed romantic relationship, 83-year-old Ruth Jones-McVeigh had a tear in her eye.
She wasn’t alone.
Air Canada says it saw a profitable quarter at the end of last year, even with a notable drop in demand for travel to the U.S. amid the ongoing trade war and tariff policies.
