Montreal’s Jacques Cartier Bridge closed after building fire

A building fire has forced the complete closure of Montreal’s Jacques Cartier Bridge during the busy morning rush hour period.

The federal authority that manages the bridge that connects downtown Montreal to Longueuil announced the full closure of the bridge as well as its multipurpose path and sidewalk at around 6 a.m.

OTTAWA — The federal justice department has widened its use of heat and motion sensors installed under staff’s desks, raising further concerns from staff and a union that they could eventually be used to monitor office attendance even if their employer swears it won’t.
