Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. January 29th, 2026

January 29, 2026

Amid a rough start to 2026 for Ottawa’s transit service – highlighted by a bus shortage and another Line 1 LRT hiccup – two Ottawa city councillors are calling on OC Transpo to explore offering refunds or travel credits. These would be offered to any transit riders who are facing delayed or cancelled trips. We dig deeper in Hour 2 with Knoxdale-Merivale councillor Sean Devine and Capital Ward councillor Shawn Menard. Over at Parliament Hill, Prime Minister Carney is meeting with Canada’s Premiers, as the feds aim to project an everlasting image of national unity. In order for future negotiations with the United States to remain productive and positive for Canada, he says that everyone must continue to adopt the ‘Team Canada’ approach. That being said, we are also seeing visible fractures in several parts of the country, with Quebec and Alberta standing out the most. Is Canada on the brink of another unity crisis? Kristy Cameron chats with Brian Gallant, a former Premier of New Brunswick and the present-day CEO of Space Canada. Plus, Winterlude might be full steam ahead tomorrow, but a certain movie is generating plenty of attention ahead of its opening weekend. CFRA’s Andrew Pinsent has more on that.
