Committee approves additional storey for York Street hotel

February 10, 2026

The Built Heritage Committee today approved an application for alterations at 110-116 York Street, a property designated under Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act and located on the boundary of the ByWard Market Conservation District (HCD).

In 2023, Council approved an application to demolish a two-storey red brick building on the site and construct a 16-storey addition to the existing hotel. The current application seeks approval for an additional storey with a mechanical penthouse above. The site is located on the south side of York Street, east of Dalhousie Street and west of Cumberland Street. It is currently vacant and is considered a non-contributing property within the ByWard Market HCD.

The Planning and Housing Committee will also consider the heritage permit along with Official Plan (OP) and zoning amendments that would facilitate this development at its meeting on Wednesday, February 18.

City Council will consider the recommendations from today’s meeting on Wednesday, February 25.
