Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. February 12th, 2026

February 12, 2026

The B.C. government has announced a provincewide day of mourning following Tuesday’s horrific mass shooting at Tumbler Ridge. A memorial of flowers and stuffed animals is rapidly growing near the small town’s high school. And as Thursday’s show develops, you will hear from some of the victims’ families, as some of the departed faces are being identified by authorities. Ottawa’s top story, which pales in comparison to this week’s tragedy, is a building frustration towards public transit. The bus fleet is aging. Bus stops are being missed. Mechanics are needed. Better buses are needed, and still haven’t shown up to OC Transpo’s front door. Oh, and the next extension of LRT has been delayed yet again. So as we wait, and wait some more, how can the city’s transit service begin to restore its accountability? Kristy Cameron picks the brain of Nick Grover, who is an Executive Member of Free Transit Ottawa.
