Ottawa Now - Remembering the man who created the 'Island of Sanity'

February 16, 2026

The mighty CFRA Nation is in a state of mourning on this Family Day, as the man who created the 'Island of Sanity' is no longer with us. On Saturday, longtime radio host Lowell Green took his final breaths at the age of 89, leaving behind an impactful legacy all throughout Canada's Capital. He was a man who always stuck to his guns, even if you strongly disliked his two cents. And if you called the station to challenge his views, Lowell responded. Today, tributes and stories are pouring in from past colleagues and politicians, as well as the listeners who spent some of their days tuning in. Kristy Cameron chats with Rob Snow, a former CFRA Afternoon host who took hold of the Midday ranks when Green retired in 2016.
