Ottawa Now - City councillor calls for bylaw against feeding wild animals
February 17, 2026
An Ottawa city councillor is calling for a bylaw against feeding wild animals, arguing that the innocent-looking practice can also attract rodents. Laura Dudas has organized a motion, which will be presented at City Committee on Thursday. Over at the City of Toronto, bird-feeders are fair game, but feeding wildlife on private and public property is prohibited. Similar bylaws are also in place for Brampton, Oakville, and Vaughn. The councillor for Orléans West-Innes joins Kristy Cameron on today’s Ottawa Now.
It raises the base income tax rate by 0.54 per cent — the first increase in 26 years — while the deficit is predicted to soar to a record $13.3 billion next fiscal year.
