The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority has designated five new 'community hazard zones' around elementary schools, citing ongoing social and environmental concerns. I am extremely saddened by the death of Peter Clark, the crossing guard hit while on duty in Barrhaven. I am also very angry as I feel that the removal of the speed enforcement camera near his location may have directly contributed to this tragedy. Contrary to what Doug Ford and his party have stated, research showed that speed enforcement cameras were effective in reducing the speed of traffic in school zones. I believe that drivers do reduce their speed when they know cameras are monitoring their actions. I hope that someone holds the provincial government partly responsible for this...
